General Information
The Cathedral and Metropolitan Church of Saint Peter in York also known as York Minster is a Church of England cathedral in York, England. The cathedral is one of the biggest of its kind in Europe and is the second highest office in the Church of England. The minster has been expanded and rebuilt over the 1000+ years it has stood and is a mixture of architectural styles, although its medieval glass and stone masterpieces are a sight to behold.
Getting there
The minster is situated in central York. It is a mile walk away from York train station and close to the bus station. Public transport is considered the best way to get to the minster but you can also travel by car with local car parks available.
Opening Times and Admission
York Minster opens its doors to visitors throughout the week, you can go and have a look around and even enter the tower that gives views over York. The Minster is open daily for services and is open daily to sightseers with admission starting from 9am-4.30pm.during the week with a later opening at weekend. Admission to the Minster and Tower is set at £15 for adults.
Decided to explore my own country of birth during partial lockdown in the late summer of 2020 and this cathedral has the character to match Florence and st pats in NY. Didn't realise we had such elegance up north lol.
