General Information

The Wiener Staatsoper or the Vienna State Opera as it translates in English is an opera house and company in Vienna, Austria. The opera house was opened in 1868, after being built in a Neo-Renaissance style by architect Josef Hlavka. The opera house has since been renovated numerous times, it had to be rebuilt after the Second World War. The opera house has a capacity of around 2250 with 1700 seated and 550 standing spaces. The opera house hosts weekly shows.

Getting there

The opera house is accessible via the public transport system of Vienna. You can take the underground U2 line to ‘Karlsplatz’ which is a short walk away from the sight. You can also take the tram to ‘Kärntner Ring, Oper’ which is reached on the 1, 2, 62, 71 or D trams.
