General Information

Theatro Municipal is an opera house theatre located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was opened in 1909, it is a beautiful eclectic building that was designed by Francisco de Oliveira Passos. The elegant building was decorated by some of Brazil's best painters and sculptors. The theatre has a seating capacity of 2,444. It plays host to ballet and classical music shows. The theatre has a luxurious feel but it is a warm and welcoming place that attracts theatre-goers of all backgrounds.

Getting there

The theatre is situated in the centre of Rio de Janeiro. It is a 10-15 minute walk away from the central train station. The 006, 014, 104, 201, 229 and 239 buses all stop close by.
