Tennoji Zoo is a zoo in Osaka, Japan. The zoo opened in 1915 and It has remained popular ever since then with local citizens and tourists. It is promoted as a place for recreation, culture and learning. The zoo has around 1000 animals in its care that cover around 230 types of species. The animals live on the zoos 11 hectares of land that has been divided up into different habitats to suit different species. The zoo includes animals such as hippos and rhinos, it has an African savanna zone amongst other themed areas.
Public transport in the city of Osaka is the best way to travel with the subway networks being of a high standard. The zoo is a 5-minute walk away from the ‘Dobutsuen-Mae’ station on the Midosuji and Sakaisuji subway lines.
Opening Times and Admission
The zoo is open daily, 9am-5pm with the last admission set for an hour before closing. Admission to the zoo costs 500yen per person.
