The Strossmayer Gallery of Old Masters is a museum of fine art with a collection of over 4000 works of which 250 are on display and the rest reside in other museums or storage. The museum was founded by Bishop Josip Juraj Strossmayer and opened in 1884. Bishop Strossmayer donated his collection to the museum and some of that collection is still on display today in the museum. The art collection dates from around the 14th century to the 19th century and is mainly paintings by European painters.
The museum is situated in the city centre and is accessible on foot from all the major transport stations of the city.
Opening Times and Admission
The museum is open to visitors and has an admission fee of 30kn; with guided tours available from around 100kn. The museum is open six days of the week, with Monday being the day of closure.
