Strahov Monastery is a premonstarian abbey that was founded in 1143 by Bishop John of Prague, Vladislaus II the Duke of Bohemia and Jindrich Zdik. The monastery was established for the Premonstratensians, followers of the teachings of St. Augustine. The monastery is a large impressive building, its library is considered important due to its collection of books that are over 800 years old.
You can easily get to the monastery through the public transport system of Prague. By metro, use line A and get off at ‘Malostranska’ then get on Tram 22 to ‘Pohorelec’, which is a short walk away from the sight.
Opening Times and Admission
The monasteries gallery and library are open to visitors. The library is open daily, 9am-12pm and 1pm-5pm. The gallery is also open daily, 9.30am-11.30am and 12pm-5pm.
