General Information
Khan el-Khalili is a famous bazaar in Cairo, Egypt. The bazaar was established in the historic area of Cairo in the 14th century. The bazaar building is interesting from an architectural point of view, it's almost like an array of small medieval courtyards. Since the bazaar's inception, it has been the place in the city for locals to trade. There is a large number of traders selling almost anything you can craft. Popular items traded are art, cooking spices and handcrafted souvenirs of Egypt. It is the place to go in Cairo not only to experience local trade but local culture.
Getting there
The easiest way to get to the marketplace is by taxi. The metro system will take you close to the marketplace, get off at ‘Ataba Station’ from there it's a short walk away. Another option is to take the bus, the 24, 815 and 915 buses all stop close by.
Opening Times and Admission
The bazaar is open daily as are most stalls, usually from around 9am till well after sunset.
Actually this is one of my favourite markets i've visited in the world. It has a real vibe, with its cool architecture style. We went in the evening and it was fairly busy, the traders were friendly and not over aggressive in trying to sell you items.
