General Information

The Käfigturm is a medieval tower situated in the Swiss capital, Bern. The tower was built in 1256 as a gatehouse as part of an expansion of the city, however, it was demolished and rebuilt in 1644 to a baroque style. The tower is 49 metres in height. The tower served as a prison for many years until a new prison was built elsewhere in the early 20th century and the tower was repurposed. The tower is currently used as a seat of the confederations political forum and is the host of many political exhibitions and events.
