General Information

One of the most famous sights in Los Angeles, USA that is a recognisable symbol for many across the world is the Hollywood Sign. The sign simply spells out ‘Hollywood’ in 44ft capital letters that are situated on Mount Lee in the Hollywood Hills area overlooking Hollywood, LA. The sign was originally erected in 1923 for an advertisement of real estate but became popular and was left up. From the ground, the sign looks wavy due to the hill gradient but at an equal height, the sign is pretty much level.

Getting there

Take the DASH bus if travelling by public transport, the bus costs about 50 cents a ride, it runs every 20 minutes; You can board the bus at The Metro Red Line Vermont/Sunset Station. Alternative ways to get there are by hiking or with a tour operator.

Opening Times and Admission

The sign is open at all hours as it is in a public area. Obviously, the best time to visit is in daylight. As it is situated in a public area access to the sign is free.

One of those must have pictures to show people you've been. We had ours from the side of one of the roads on the hills below.

Well guarded

Rated:

You can see the sign from most of the city and the best views you'll get in close proximity is from Griffith observatory. Up close the sign is well guarded by the Police and the closest you'll get is around 100ft.
