The Getty Center is a multi-building complex situated in Los Angeles, USA that is owned by the Getty Trust. The main building is the Getty Museum, which was established in 1974 in a different location, it features pre-20th-century European paintings, drawings, illuminated manuscripts, sculpture, and decorative arts; and photographs from the 1830s through the present day from all over the world. The museum and the other buildings which are used for such things as research opened in 1997 at a cost of $1.3 billion. The buildings themselves are works of art.
The easiest way to get to the Getty Center is by car, there is limited on-site parking available. Buses 2/302 and 602 travel to the Getty Centre which is situated to the west of the city centre.
Opening Times and Admission
Admission to the Getty Centre is free. The center is closed on Mondays. The center is open Tuesday to Friday and Sunday 10am-5pm and on Saturdays, the center is open 10am-9pm.
