General Information
Gate of Dawn is a city gate located in the city of Vilnius, Lithuania. The gate was built between 1503 and 1522 as part of defensive fortifications of Vilnius. It is one of the most important religious, historical and cultural monuments in the city. The gate has a chapel which contains an icon of The Blessed Virgin Mary Mother of Mercy, said to have miraculous powers. It also has other religious artefacts that were placed there to guard the city.
Getting there
The gate is situated at the southern end of the city centre. You can get there on foot from most parts of the city centre. The 13, 31, 34, 74 and 88 buses all stop close to the gate.
Opening Times and Admission
People can pass through the gate at any hour of any day. The gate’s building is open to visitors from 6am-7pm daily.
