One of the busiest railway stations in the southern hemisphere is Flinders Street Railway Station in Melbourne, Australia. The main building of the station is a landmark and a cultural icon of the city. It was built in 1909 to a French Renaissance style with a large arched entrance, tower, dome and clocks, the latter are one of the city's most recognisable landmarks. The grand building houses Australia's busiest train station, it is used by around 100,000 people a day and is a key part of the whole of the Australian railway network.
The station is the main transport hub of the city, trains arrive there from all over Australia as well as from local suburbs. Many local bus services stop at the station.
