Federation Square is a square that is used for arts, culture and public events, it is situated on the edge of the CBD in Melbourne, Australia. The square was opened in 2002, it covers 7.9 acres of land. The square is in a popular part of the city, it is built over railway lines and is a short walk away from Flinders Street Railway Station. It is surrounded by major cultural centres such as the Ian Potter Centre, ACMI and the Koorie Heritage trust as well as many cafe, restaurants and bars.
The square is a minute walk away from the main transport hub of the city, Flinders Street Railway Station where rail and bus services stop. If travelling by car, parking in the area is limited to street parking, which is usually accompanied by a fee which is payable at the meters.
