General Information

Downhill Strand is a 7-mile long beach in Coleraine, it is known for its lengthy sand dunes, picturesque scenery, views and the Mussenden Temple that sits on the cliff top. It is also one of the longest beaches in Ireland and has won Blue Flag awards. The beach has recently seen fame through Game of Thrones, it is used as the location of Dragonstone and was used for famous scenes with Melisandre and the burning of the Seven Idols of Westeros.

Getting there

The best option for getting to Downhill strand is by car, although parking can be limited. Other options are by bike and bus.

Opening Times and Admission

The beach is open to visitors and access is free of charge, the beach has facilities available and also has activities that visitors can get involved in, such as windsurfing.
