General Information

City Gate is a city gate located at the entrance of Valletta, Malta. The present gate is the fifth to have stood in the city, it was unveiled in 2014 after being built to the designs of Italian architect Renzo Piano. Three of the previous gates that were considered the ‘City Gate’ were all fortified gates, the last gate was built to a Futuristic style and the current gate was built to more of an Italian rationalist style. The gate marks the start of Republic Street.

Getting there

The gate is situated at one end of Republic Street. With Valletta being only a small city, you can get to the street from most areas on foot. The 133 bus stops close to the street.

Opening Times and Admission

The gate is situated in a public area, it is free to visit the gate at any hour of any day.
