General Information

The primary art gallery in Auckland, New Zealand, is the Auckland Art Gallery. The gallery was established in 1888 in an elegant purpose built French Renaissance building. The gallery has the largest collection of New Zealand art in the world and it also has an extensive collection of International art. The basis of its collection was founded on donations by Sir George Grey and James Tannock Mackelvie. The art varies from Modern to Contemporary with works also from Maori and Pacific island artists.

Getting there

The gallery is situated in the city centre close to other sights such as the Sky Tower. You can get there by taking the 101 bus which stops close by.

Opening Times and Admission

The gallery is open to visitors daily, 10am-5pm. Admission is free for residents of New Zealand. For international visitors, it is 20$ for adults and 17$ for concessions with children under 12 entering for free.
