General Information

The Art Museum Steps, known more commonly as the ‘Rocky Steps’ are the 72 steps that lead up to the Philadelphia Art Museum in the city of Philadelphia, USA. The steps have become known as the ‘Rocky Steps’ due to the hit 1976 boxing film ‘Rocky’, in which the boxer Rocky Balboa climbs up the steps as part of his training. The steps have since become famous, with fans of the film recreating the scene which was a metaphor for an underdog or an everyman rising to a challenge.

Getting there

If travelling by car, the museum has a local parking garage; it will set you back 12$ to park there. If travelling by bus, the 7, 32, 38, 43, and 48 bus routes all stop at the museum near the steps. The closest subway station is ‘Race Vine’, this is a 5-minute walk away from the steps.

Opening Times and Admission

The steps are in a public area, so you can visit them at any time of any day for free.
